Electronic Devices and Materials
Professor Paul Yu joined faculty here in 1983. His research team focuses on the study of micro to nano scale optoelectronic devices for analog microwave and digital communication systems, in guided wave and free-space formats.

Research Interests

Materials and device structures for electronic and optoelectronic applications; organo-metallic vapor phase epitaxy; wafer fusion; development of novel optoelectronic devices including modulators, photodetectors, optoelectronic switches, and lasers.

Current Research

Investigation of photonic band structures, laser chaos, secure communication, analog fiber-optic links for high frequency applications, selective area epitaxy, lasers, optical modulators, high power microwave switches, and optical detectors.
